Has your dog got an underactive thyroid??

Hypothyroidism or an underactive thyroid gland is a common condition in people, but did you know it can also affect dogs?

Common clinical signs include thinning hair, weight gain and generally "slowing down".Often the hair loss is particularly obvious on the tail.

As these signs come on slowly, owners often put them down to pets just getting older but when the condition is treated, it is amazing the difference it can make!

Cara is on treatment for an underactive thyroid and came in to see us for a repeat prescription check recently. The difference in her since starting treatment is amazing! She has much more energy and as you can see from the photos below, she looks younger!

A simple blood test is used to diagnose the condition so if you are worried your dog may have an underactive thyroid gland, please make an appointment to see your vet as starting treatment could give them their bounce back!
