Meet the Staff - Nurses

Helen Howard RVN

Head Nurse

Helen has been a qualified nurse since 2003, and has been with us since 2004.. She is our head nurse, and is responsible for organising the nursing team!

Away from work, she is married, with a son. Helen breeds and shows Hungarian Vizlas, whippets and Shih Tzus, and has won best of breed at Crufts with the Shih Tzus three times.

Qualified Veterinary Nurse
 
Laura has been with us since 2010, and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2015. Laura is our nursing team manager, and organises the nursing team She particularly enjoys nursing the critical patients, and helping the vets in theatre.

She has two young children, and returned from maternity leave in August 2019. She also has a dog called George, and two cats, Boris and Elliott who she rescued as kittens.

Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Lindsay joined us in 2001 as an office assistant, she then worked as a receptionist, before moving into what she really wanted to do, which was nursing! Her main interests are surgical nursing, and running the practice weight watchers scheme (for pets, not staff!).

She has two sons, a lively dog called Harley, and enjoys camping. Harley is a Pat Dog, and Lindsay takes him to primary schools so the children can read to him, to gain confidence in their reading.

Tash joined us in 2006, and qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2013. She has two young sons and three dogs who all keep her very busy!

Karen has been with us since April 2009. She has had a variety of jobs previously, including midwifery and medical sales, with her last job being at a boarding kennels. She enjoys learning new things, and recently completed a degree in computing with the Open University. She qualified in 2013, and enjoys all aspects of her job.

Away from work, she likes reading, walking her dog, cake decorating and recently had a holiday on a Spanish Alpaca farm.

Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Claire has been with us since April 2014, she joined us as maternity cover and never left! She qualified in 2004 and has previously worked in practices in Cheshire and Staffordshire.

She enjoys the really challenging surgical cases, and is often in theatre with Matt helping with the complicated anaesthetic cases. 

Away from work, she enjoys walking with her dogs or riding her motorbike. She has two dogs, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever (with a pacemaker!) and an American Akita.

Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Megan qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2016, and joined us at Alfreton Park in April 2017. Before this she worked as a groom. 

She enjoys all aspects of nursing, but especially nursing critically ill patients, and loves the satisfaction of seeing them get better.

She has a horse and 2 dogs, and spends most of her spare time walking and riding. She also enjoys travelling, and went to Tanzania on a safari in 2016, which she found amazing, and she hopes to go again.

Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Lexy joined us in 2012 as a kennels/cattery assistant, having studied animal care at Broomfield College. She qualified as a veterinary nurse in August 2017.

She enjoys playing with her cat, going to the cinema, and keeping fit. Lexy is currently on maternity, having had a baby in November 2018.

Katie Charity RVN

Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Katie qualified from Nottingham Trent University, having completed a 3 year foundation degree in veterinary nursing. She worked at the PDSA in Derby prior to joining our team here in Alfreton. She enjoys helping the vets with emergency operations and is very interested in veterinary anaesthesia.
 
Away from work, she likes eating out (especially Chinese food), and looking after her 3 cats (Bobby, Jake and Milo).

 
 

 
 

Danielle Wright RVN


Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Danielle qualified from Bristol University in July 2017. She worked at a small animal hospital in Somerset and a referral practice in Derbyshire before joining us in January 2019. 

Danielle has quickly settled into our team. She enjoys cardiology and emergency/critical care nursing. 

Away from work, she enjoys spending time with her Chihuahua Peach, and in July 2019 had another Chihuahua puppy called Binky :)

Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Sioned qualified in July 2019 from Harper Adams college. She originally came to us for her placement but was so wonderful that we offered her a job! She has a keen interest in nutrition, but enjoys getting stuck in to all aspects of the job!

She has 2 Yorkshire terriers (Pepsi and Max), and a cat called Harper who she hand-reared. Away from work she takes part in motorsport, and breeds budgerigars and Rosa Borques.

Alice joined us in 2018, having been in practice for 6 years. She passed her veterinary nursing exams to become fully qualified in April 2019. Her favourite part of the job is nursing critical care patients, which she finds very rewarding.
 
In her spare time, Alice enjoys walking and camping. She has a dog, a cat and 2 guinea pigs.

Nursing Assistant

Donna joined our team in 2015. Previously, she worked for Vets Now, and prior to that was an Administration Team Leader at Kings Mill hospital. She is married with two girls and three step-children.

She started her veterinary nurse training in 2019. 

In her spare time she enjoys walking her collie x mastiff dog Poppy, and does a crazy Impact Fitness class. She loves running and has done several half marathons. Her ambition to run a full marathon was realised in May 2017 when she completed the Liverpool marathon.

Patient Care Assistant

Sharni has been with us since 2014, joining us from Broomfield College where she completed a level 3 course in Animal Management. She enjoys everything about her work here!

Away from work, she enjoys clay pigeon shooting, shopping and going to the cinema. Her pets keep her busy - she has 2 Dachshunds called Pepper and Nancy, a snake called Tango and tropical fish.

Verity joined our team in 2017, and helps look after all the in-patients.She had been at University for 2 years before this, before deciding she wanted a job with practical skills. She enjoys all aspects of her job but especially cuddling all the puppies that come in!

She has a French bulldog called Peanut, a Boxer called Victor, and in her spare time enjoys horse riding and reading.
 

Emily Ross

Patient Care Assistant

Emily joined us in 2018, having run her own pet-sitting business prior to this. She enjoys looking after the in-patients, especially the ones recovering from surgery who have special nursing needs.

She has 4 cats (Nellie, Mischief, Bourbon and Maize), and a collie called Mabel.

Away from work, she enjoys horse riding and speedway!
