Rabbit owners! Remember to keep a close eye on your rabbits bottom in the warmer weather. Rabbits as very prone to getting "fly strike" a horrible condition where flies lay eggs on a rabbit and maggots then eat the poor rabbit alive. Elderly rabbits and those prone to messy bottoms are especially at risk.
The risk of fly strike can be reduced by ensuring your rabbit doesn't become overweight, that their diet is correct (80% hay and grass with a small amount of pelleted food and minimal fruit) and their hutch is cleaned regularly. If rabbits are at risk of flystrike, we recommend using Rearguard, a product that is applied to the rabbit's bottom and stops the maggots developing and causing damage. It is much more effective than fly repellents and stays on the rabbit for 10 weeks.
